Pressure Washer Will Not Turn On
- Power cord loose: Make sure the power cord is firmly plugged into a working grounded outlet.
- GFCI tripped: Press the reset button on the GFCI plug and check the outlet if the unit does not power up.
- Outlet has no power: Test the outlet with another device and check the circuit breaker or outdoor receptacle.
- Trigger not engaged: Some models may not run continuously until the spray gun trigger is squeezed.
- Extension cord issue: Use a properly rated outdoor extension cord only if the manual allows it, and avoid undersized or very long cords.
Motor Runs but No Water Comes Out
- Water supply off: Open the faucet fully and confirm the garden hose has steady water flow.
- Air trapped in pump: Connect the water supply, turn it on, and squeeze the trigger with the unit off until water flows steadily.
- Nozzle blocked: Remove the nozzle and clean the opening with the nozzle cleaning tool or a small cleaning pin.
- Inlet filter clogged: Inspect and clean the water inlet screen before reconnecting the garden hose.
- Kinked hose: Straighten the garden hose and high-pressure hose to restore water flow.
Low Pressure or Weak Spray
- Wrong nozzle selected: Use the correct spray tip for the task. Wide-angle nozzles produce lower cleaning force than narrow-angle tips.
- Water supply too weak: Make sure the faucet provides enough flow and that the hose is not too small, kinked, or restricted.
- Nozzle worn or damaged: Replace a worn nozzle if the spray pattern is uneven or pressure remains low.
- Inlet screen dirty: Clean the inlet filter to prevent flow restriction into the pump.
- Air in system: Bleed the system by running water through the spray gun before turning on the motor.
Pressure Pulses or Surges
- Air leak at inlet: Check the garden hose connection, quick coupler, inlet adapter, and washer seals.
- Water supply interrupted: Ensure the faucet is fully open and the hose is not collapsing or restricted.
- Nozzle partially clogged: Remove and clean the spray tip, then flush the wand before reinstalling it.
- Dirty inlet filter: Remove debris from the inlet screen and reconnect the hose securely.
- Pump cycling: If the unit cycles when the trigger is not pressed, check for leaks at the gun, hose, wand, or fittings.
Pressure Washer Leaks Water
- Garden hose connection loose: Tighten the inlet connection by hand and check that the washer gasket is installed.
- High-pressure hose loose: Reconnect the hose to the pump outlet and spray gun until fully seated.
- O-ring damaged: Inspect quick-connect fittings, spray wand connections, hose ends, and nozzle couplers for worn O-rings.
- Cracked fitting: Replace damaged adapters, couplers, spray gun parts, or hose fittings.
- Pump leak: Stop using the unit if water leaks heavily from the pump housing or motor area.
Detergent Will Not Dispense
- Wrong nozzle used: Many pressure washers draw soap only with the low-pressure soap nozzle or detergent setting.
- Detergent tank empty: Fill the detergent tank with a pressure-washer-safe cleaning solution.
- Soap tube blocked: Check the detergent tube, filter, and inlet for dried soap or debris.
- Detergent too thick: Dilute the cleaner according to the detergent and pressure washer instructions.
- High-pressure mode selected: Switch to the correct low-pressure mode before expecting detergent flow.
Spray Gun, Wand and Nozzle Problems
- Nozzle will not lock: Pull back the quick-connect collar, insert the nozzle fully, and release the collar until it clicks.
- Nozzle pops out: Stop using the tool and inspect the quick-connect coupler, nozzle groove, and retaining collar.
- Trigger stuck: Engage and release the trigger lock, rinse the trigger area, and inspect for dirt or damage.
- Spray pattern uneven: Clean the nozzle, check for damage, and replace the tip if the spray remains distorted.
- Wand connection leaking: Check alignment, tighten fittings, and replace worn O-rings or seals.
High-Pressure Hose Problems
- Hose difficult to connect: Release pressure by turning off the unit, shutting off the water supply, and squeezing the trigger before reconnecting.
- Hose kinks: Lay the hose out straight before starting and avoid sharp bends during use.
- Hose leaks: Replace the hose if it is cut, blistered, cracked, kinked permanently, or leaking under pressure.
- Hose stuck on fitting: Release system pressure first, then disconnect carefully without twisting the fitting excessively.
- Wrong hose rating: Use only a hose rated for the pressure washer's maximum pressure and compatible connection type.
Surface Cleaner Problems
- Surface cleaner not spinning: Check for clogged spray nozzles, low water pressure, or debris under the rotating bar.
- Uneven cleaning lines: Move at a steady pace and overlap passes slightly for consistent results.
- Unit vibrates: Stop and inspect the rotating spray bar, nozzles, bearings, and housing for debris or damage.
- Leaves circular marks: Avoid holding the cleaner in one place too long and use the correct pressure for the surface.
- Water splashes excessively: Check the skirt, nozzle condition, and surface cleaner compatibility with the pressure washer.
Foam Cannon and Soap Bottle Problems
- Weak foam: Use the correct dilution ratio and make sure the pressure washer is in the proper soap-dispensing mode.
- Foam cannon clogs: Rinse the bottle, pickup tube, mesh filter, and nozzle after each use.
- No soap pickup: Check the suction tube, bottle seal, and quick-connect fitting.
- Watery foam: Adjust the foam cannon control if equipped and use a cleaner designed for pressure washer foam application.
- Leaking bottle: Inspect the bottle threads, gasket, pickup tube, and connector.
Battery and Cordless Pressure Washer Problems
- Battery not charged: Fully charge the Greenworks battery pack before use.
- Battery not seated: Remove and reinstall the battery until it clicks securely into place.
- Short runtime: Use a fully charged battery, reduce pressure demand, and avoid continuous heavy-duty cleaning beyond the tool rating.
- Battery overheated: Let the battery cool before charging or continuing operation.
- Wrong battery platform: Use only compatible Greenworks battery packs and chargers specified for the pressure washer model.
Unit Stops During Operation
- Thermal protection active: Turn off the pressure washer and allow the motor to cool before restarting.
- Electrical overload: Use a dedicated outlet and avoid sharing the circuit with other high-power appliances.
- Water supply restricted: Check the faucet, hose, inlet filter, and nozzle for blockage.
- GFCI trips repeatedly: Stop using the unit and inspect for moisture, damaged cord, faulty outlet, or internal electrical problems.
- Trigger released: Some units stop automatically when the trigger is released and restart when the trigger is squeezed.
Winter Storage and Pump Protection
- Water left inside: Drain the pump, hose, wand, and spray gun after use to reduce freezing risk.
- Freezing damage: Do not store the unit where water inside the pump can freeze.
- Detergent residue: Flush the detergent system with clean water before storage.
- Accessory storage: Store nozzles, wand, hose, and spray gun in a dry place to prevent damage and clogging.
- Pump protector: Use a pressure washer pump protector if recommended by the manual for long-term or cold-weather storage.
Routine Maintenance Tips
- Flush before use: Run water through the garden hose before connecting it to remove dirt and debris.
- Clean inlet filter: Check the inlet screen regularly and clean it whenever water flow seems reduced.
- Inspect fittings: Check O-rings, washers, adapters, quick-connects, and hose ends before each use.
- Release pressure after use: Turn off the unit, shut off water, and squeeze the trigger to relieve pressure before disconnecting hoses.
- Store dry: Drain all water, coil hoses loosely, keep nozzles together, and store the pressure washer indoors in a dry location.
Safety note: Always wear eye protection and keep the spray away from people, pets, electrical outlets, windows, vehicles, and delicate surfaces. Never point the pressure washer at yourself or others. Turn off the unit, unplug it or remove the battery, shut off the water supply, and release pressure before changing nozzles, connecting hoses, or performing maintenance.
